{"id":258,"date":"2011-02-12T03:50:52","date_gmt":"2011-02-11T18:50:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.ebinfoworld.com\/?p=258"},"modified":"2018-01-14T00:52:11","modified_gmt":"2018-01-13T15:52:11","slug":"wrapping-hands-arms-the-abc-way","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.ebinfoworld.com\/?p=258","title":{"rendered":"Wrapping Hands &#038; Arms The ABC Way"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Sheri Coil &#8211; with\u00a0 the assistance of Brandi<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"margin: 8px; border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sleepingangel.com\/ebworld\/images\/image65275.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"380\" height=\"285\" align=\"left\" border=\"3\" hspace=\"8\" vspace=\"8\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The following is the way we wrap the hands (and arms while we are so near) to reduce the mittening deformity that RDEB causes.<\/p>\n<p>After cleansing and debriding I use a lot of Alwyn cream or what ever else I have used before it came along.\u00a0 The open wound or skinless areas get Mepital first, then Vaseline gauze.<\/p>\n<p>We have had excellent luck with the Mepital preventing sticking bandages. The oozy serum stuff can drain right through it to be absorbed by outer gauze.\u00a0 And the creams and ointments can get back to the wounds.\u00a0 The\u00a0 Vaseline puts up a further barrier to sticking.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The gauze starts on the top of the hand.\u00a0 I use Kendall conform 1&#8243;.\u00a0 You can see the Mepital under the Vaseline gauze.\u00a0 Please note that the wounds on this arm are all self inflicted from scratching. The areas she doesn&#8217;t scratch are very clean.\u00a0 I used this area to demo on because it needs the works as far as under gauzes<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" style=\"border-image: initial; margin-top: 15px; margin-bottom: 15px; border: 3px solid black;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sleepingangel.com\/ebworld\/images\/img161D4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" border=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The gauze then goes around the thumb a couple of times, until it is wrapped and then\u00a0 around the hand, over the top and around the first finger,\u00a0 around it til wrapped, and around the hand to the next finger&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sleepingangel.com\/ebworld\/images\/image26382.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"399\" height=\"299\" border=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After the fingers are wrapped, I go around the hand and come up through each web space.\u00a0\u00a0 Two going around the first way and then\u00a0 an extra half wrap around the wrist to make the last one cross over the first two.\u00a0 Clear as mud, huh?\u00a0 Ggg<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sleepingangel.com\/ebworld\/images\/image370F5.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"403\" height=\"303\" border=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then I wrap a two inch Kendall\u00a0 Conform bandage over the wrist, around the hand one loop and then through the thumb space and on around the arm on up Coming back down the arm, I pad the armpit, elbow and anywhere bad and roll the bandage right over it.\u00a0 I use Kerlix for that padding, cut to what I need.\u00a0 I just roll the bandage on.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sleepingangel.com\/ebworld\/images\/img272A0.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"416\" height=\"312\" border=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<p>No pulling, but not loose.\u00a0 It just needs to support the skin, not cut off circulation or cause mis-shaping over time.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0 use tube gauze over everything.\u00a0 I do not like to use tape at all.<\/p>\n<p>Here she is, all ready to go! \ud83d\ude42 Our Dancing Queen \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" style=\"border: black 3px solid;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sleepingangel.com\/ebworld\/images\/image580D3.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"303\" height=\"403\" border=\"3\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here is the Video of the wrapping technique recorded in January 1998<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dez7-oJRnjM\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Sheri Coil &#8211; with\u00a0 the assistance of Brandi The following is the way we wrap the hands (and arms while we are so near) to reduce the mittening deformity that RDEB causes.
